Enrol online

Enrolments opening 11th December for 2024!

The steps to enrol are the same for each study period or trimester. You must choose your subjects, check your timetable, and then enrol online. You can enrol in your subjects for the whole year as soon as enrolments open each year. (External students should refer to the Class Registration information to check if class registration is required).

Check the Academic Calendars to find the “Last Date to Enrol,” for each study period and trimester. After the Last Date to Enrol, you need to complete an online Late Subject Enrolment request form.  The Enrolment team will process the request and seek approval from the Subject Coordinator for late enrolment if you have not already provided evidence of approval.

Please note, as per the Coursework and Enrolment Procedure, students are not approved to enrol more than 5 University working days after the Last Date to Enrol for each study period/trimester.

Use your Study Plan in eStudent as a guide when choosing your subjects – it gives you a blueprint of what subjects you need to do in order to complete your degree. You can only enrol in subjects for your year level, so a subject that has 1 at the front is a first year subject, and the same applies for each subsequent year level. For example, BA1000 is a first year subject while BA3000 is a third year subject.

Most degrees will have a combination of both core and elective subjects. If your degree allows you to choose an elective subject, you can browse all JCU subjects on Subject Search.

If you need help, visit the Course and Subject Handbook for a breakdown of your course and its subjects.  Alternatively, you can refer to our first year course enrolment planner guides or contact your Enrolment Team for advice.

Once you've chosen your subjects, start to plan your class timetable. Tutorials and workshops are usually repeated so you only need to choose one time slot, however, it's a good idea to write down several options in case your first preference is unavailable. Make sure you also check for class clashes, especially for lectures, as there is only one lecture you can attend. If you have clashes, you may need to choose another subject, so plan your timetable carefully. If you are studying externally, you do not need to worry about planning a timetable.

Follow these steps:

  • Download a timetable planner (PDF, 50 KB)
  • Go to the online timetable.
  • Select Subjects on the left side of the screen.
  • Select your College, or other as appropriate, from the top drop down box.
  • Select campus, if required.
  • Choose your subjects from the top drop-down box. Select more than one subject by holding down the Control (CTRL) key on your keyboard while you make your selections.
  • Select the study period, trimester or weeks from the next drop-down box.
  • Finally, choose the days and times from the next two drop-downs. The best option, unless there are intensives or weekend activities, is to choose all week and all hours.
  • Write down the subject classes in your timetable planner.

For help on using your timetable, look at our Timetable Help guide (PDF, 1503 KB).

Make sure you check when enrolments open and close to ensure you do not miss out on choosing your preferred subjects. You can only enrol in subjects for one year at a time once enrolments open.

Follow these steps:

Once you have enrolled, check your enrolment is correct by selecting Current Enrolment.

Once you’ve enrolled in your subjects, you will need to register in classes.

Check your JCU email for notifications or the Class Registration Schedule about opening times for class registration for your Study Period and year level.

Action 1

Select the My Timetable tab in eStudent.

The subjects you have enrolled in will be displayed, along with their class registration status.

Each subject will have a registration status beside it:

  • Red circle – you are not yet registered for any classes for that subject.
  • Yellow circle – you have registered for some but not all classes.
  • Green circle – you have registered in all classes for that subject.

Action 2

For subjects with multiple classes available (e.g. tutorials), you’ll need to select your preferred class. If there is only one option, you will automatically be registered into the class.

Use the Register or Change option to manually register into classes.

Select the class you want (a green plus symbol appears) then select Save. Repeat until the registration status for all subjects display the all classes registered message.

If there are no places left in the class options and a wait list is available (indicated by a grey clock), you can opt to be placed on the wait list for that class. You will be contacted to confirm your place. If there is no wait list available, you should select an alternate class, or you may need to change your enrolment.

In most cases, you do not need to be concerned with any classes on a wait list. Class numbers are monitored by the College and, where possible, increased accordingly. When the class size is increased, you will automatically go on to the registered class list. If the class size cannot be increased, you will need to choose an alternative class to attend. If you have any questions with regards to the wait list, you will need to contact your College - see the below table.
